We couldn’t run our Centre without our wonderful volunteers and Rene has been part of the team for more than 12 years.
“Many years ago, I visited an open garden with a friend and she introduced me to Polly, who was running a stall on behalf of Pickering,” says Rene. “Quite a while after that, I met Polly again at a funeral and she encouraged me to find out more about volunteering. I did just that and have been coming in ever since.”
She continues: “I’ve done lots of things in the Centre over the years, but now my role is more about chatting and listening – which I really enjoy. Listening is so vital here. Pickering is very much part of my life and I don’t like it if I have to miss a week because life sometimes gets in the way. I like meeting our visitors but I’ve also made great friends with the other volunteers and we all pull together.”
