Caroline and Angela had a wonderful evening in Speldhurst recently, watching The Drama Club’s final performance of Calendar Girls – which was kindly held in support of The Pickering Cancer Drop-In Centre.
Directed by Bethan Walker, this was the first play for the newly-formed Club and the actors hadn’t stepped on stage previously – but you wouldn’t know this. The play was both funny and sad, while showing how important friendship is.
Based on true events, it follows the story of a local WI group who come together to support member Annie through her husband John’s cancer diagnosis and death. They decide to create a calendar to raise funds for a new sofa for the visitors’ room at the hospital where John was treated – and the calendar ‘goes viral’!
The wonderful members of The Drama Club in Speldhurst have created their very own calendar and, in addition to money from ticket sales, 10% of the funds raised from the calendar are coming to Pickering! A HUGE thank you to Bethan, the cast and everyone behind the scenes! We are so grateful for your support.
