We are tremendously proud to share the news that our amazing visitor and fundraiser Leigh Stevens won The Bravery Award at the BBC Kent Make A Difference Awards last night! This is an award for somebody who has shown ‘outstanding courage, defiance and duty in the face of perceived danger, fear or difficulty’. We know that Leigh is a winner – but it was just so wonderful to have this recognised by others.

Leigh received her award at Chatham Historic Dockyard and she was accompanied at the ceremony by her husband Jez and father Tony, as well as Polly. Also travelling with Leigh was her little ‘Polly Dolly’ (made by her Grandmother) which accompanies her everywhere.

“What a very special moment, hearing our brave heart Leigh had won this award, it was emotional to say the least,” says Polly. “Being part of this special family’s journey with Leigh’s diagnosis, and her fight to beat it, while also watching her put her very precious energy into thinking of others and getting the word out about Pickering with her challenges is not only brave but inspirational beyond belief.”

She continues: “Leigh, you – and your family – have made our 20th anniversary so special and memorable for not only Pickering but also me as a co-founder. We love and thank you Leigh and massive congratulations!”
